“Since you didn’t read the book it makes this presentation a little harder, but hopefully you’ll be able to see my point,” Taylor said, standing next to a table covered with a white sheet.

Cor could see that the sheet clearly covered a human body, a headless human body. A couple of feet away from the end of the table where the head would have been was another white sheet, covering what looked to be a cube on a smaller table. He was already having trouble understanding what Taylor had to say, but he had an idea of where he was going with it.

“When you proved to me that at least one of those old folklore tales was based on truth, I started wondering about some of the other stories that are out there. Which of those might be based on actual experiences. The Invisible Man? The Wolfman? Creature From the Blue Lagoon?

“Black,” Cor cut in.

“Huh?”

“Black Lagoon. Creature From the Black Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon had Brooke Shields in it.”

“Who?”

“Never mind. I think I know where you’re going with this so can we just cut to the chase? Frankenstein.”

“Uh, Okay. Yes. Frankenstein. Mary Shelley’s story,” Taylor said, thrown off of his prepared words but trying to get back on track. “Doctor Frankenstein reanimates, or creates life, in an inanimate corpse.”

“And you want to see if that can be done?” Cor asked, skepticism sneaking into his voice. It was all he could do to resist smirking at the ridiculous idea.

“Correct.”

“Okay. Let’s talk this through. People have been brought back to life moments or maybe even hours after being pronounced dead. I can tell you have a corpse there, and I’m guessing it’s been dead more than a few hours. And it looks to be headless.”

“Yes. All true. I’ve had it for a few weeks,” Taylor explained.

“I’m not sure I really want to know where you got it.” Cor shook his head. “But what makes you think that you can bring something back to life, or create life in something that’s been dead for two weeks? And has no brain? What part of Frankenstein explains how to do that?”

“Well, there’s not exactly a lot of explanation of his process in Frankenstein. It’s really more philosophical than grave robbing, body-part-stitching and bolts of lightning. Which got me thinking that Mary Shelley left out some important details of reanimation on purpose.”

“Really? And you know what these important details are?” Cor asked, desperately trying to hide his snicker.

“I’ve made some hypotheses. Like any experiment, it may or may not work. But unlike straight science where I would refer to previous verified experiments to see what has or hasn’t worked, I’ve taken a page out of your book.”

“So, you admit then that art is more important than science. Miss Duncan is going to be so disappointed.”

“No. I don’t admit that, but I think if we combine the two, things could get pretty spectacular,” Taylor rebutted.

“Okay, so what are these missing ingredients?”

“Mary Shelley claims that she wrote Frankenstein based on a dream she had while on a retreat with Lord Byron, Percy Shelley and John Polidori.
